This blog is just some random things we jotted down about Asia as we went around...
International sign language:
Menu, bill, room, food, drink
Chinese hygiene - they walk around wearing masks yet seem to think spitting everywhere and anywhere is OK?!
The wonders of Tiger balm!! Yes Tiger balm has to get a special mention for soothing all our mozzy bites, clearing Em mas blocked nose and even saving us from the smell of sick when the kid puked on the bus to Vang Vieng. Yep, if you rub a little under your nose all you can smell is Tiger balm...puke problem solved!!
The people through our trip have been really nice. We even found the Chinese really friendly (although a bit to inquisitive), however, the Thai's have gotten a bit too use to tourism and were often pretty rude and out to rip you off!
There are stray dogs everywhere, most of them with really big bollocks!!
Shrines outside shops with offerings such as fanta (with a straw), rice with prawns and cake! Just like we leave mince pies and sherry out for Santa I guess!!
Overloaded mopeds - we've seen 5 people on one moped: mum, dad, two kids and mum holding a baby!!
Stereotypes are often true - Chinese and Japanese with their cameras, Germans with their speedos, westerners being the only ones queueing
The constant beeping of horns in China and Vietnam in particular!! They beep so much that everyone ignores it, so there is absolutely no point!!
Sayings:
same same, but different
Love you long time
No money no honey
Maaaaaaaaasssssssaaaarrrrrrrgggeee
Monks buying Man U posters and using mobile phones and iPods! Where are their pockets!!
The shockingly old and ugly men that some Thai and Vietnamese girls will get with. Do they set themselves an age limit?!! How old is too old?!
Sweat pads! Like sanitary towels but they stick to your arm pit instead of using deodrant! Only in China!
Whitening products! At home we have moisturiser that include fake tan, here a lot of their products come with whitening! In the boiling heat the women walk around with gloves and long sleeves and a scarf over their face so they don't get tanned. Others use whitening make-up, but most of them end up looking like a dodgy clown or mime artist!!
There were really weird flies in Siem Reap. They appeared from nowhere at 7pm and then were dead by 8pm, usually in your drink!!!
Everyone's heard about the one child policy in China. However, we spoke to a Chinese girl who had lots of brothers and sisters. How did her mum parents get away with it?! Each child was registered under a different 'make believe' father!!! The governments never checks and they get a way with it!!
Oh yes I almost forgot...throughout Malaysia and Singapore the name 'Kris' seems to be popping up everywhere including; resorts called Kris, ancient tools called Kris and the Singapore airlines have even called their in flight cinema 'Kris World'! Whilst in a museem in malaka a piece of text said that; 'Kris is the name for an ancient Malay warrior'! And all thus time I thought I was named after the famous lengendary actor Kris Krisstopherson
