Coffs Harbour

Coffs Harbour was decided mainly for surfing as it's meant to have great waves.

As we got on the bus we were greeted by Bear and Oscar. We decided to stay in the same hostel as we were now BFFs!

The first thing we tried to do was fix our board but by the time we stopped farting around all the shops were shut. That night we played card games with the brothers, and Oscar talked about the skydive he wanted to do.

We checked out as this was only a one night stop. As we were having breakfast, Oscar said he had booked his skydive. We had a few hours before that so took the surfboard into town. The first shop we go to a guy rubs what looks like Araldite on it and said put it in the sun for 10 minutes and it will be good to go! It seemed to do the trick but there were no waves to test. On the way back we stopped to get a snow cone. Yep it's so hot here we're buying yummy flavoured snow, beats being frozen in the slushy English stuff!

We got picked up at 12noon to watch Oscar do his jump. On the minibus over we got told that there was a 'parachute problem' that morning and one of the instructors had to use the emergency chute (ie the 2nd and last)!! We watched another guys DVD who's parachute got tangled too! Luckily Oscar wasn't watching as he was filling in paperwork for his will!

We got to the beach in time to see the plane at a few thousand feet. We waited for 20 minutes before the all clear was given. It took a while but we spotted a pink parachute in the sky (which meant the 60 seconds freefall had finished). As the pink parachute got closer we only saw 1 person. Confused, we look around for other people jumping out of the plane but we saw no-one. When the girl landed she told us that Oscar had effectively chickened out!! We felt sad for him but Bear (his brother) thought all his Christmases had come at once!!

We headed back to the hanger where Oscar landed (in the plane) and he said he freaked out and wouldn't let go of the door! He wasn't bothered that he couldn't jump and was happy that he tried. But unfortunately for him Bear and us have a story about a guy who didn't jump that will be remembered for ever!!

Later in the afternoon we all decided to do a jump....off the pier into the sea. It was about 7 metres, so quite high.

That evening we said our goodbyes as we got kicked out of our hostel at 9pm and waited at the bus station for 6 hours! Yep 6 long hours. It went by pretty quick thanks to UNO and goon (boxed wine in bag - Aboriginal word for pillow!)

Next stop.........Sydney!
