Magnetic island because Captain Cooks cumpus went mad as he sailed passed. But in reality, his cumpus must have broke! Anyway enough of the history lesson.
We made our way from Townsville (which wins the prize for most inventive town name!) by ferry to magnetic island. Going back to basics we are camping for 2 nights. We turned up, pitched up and jumped in the pool to cool off (how cold is it in England again?!!) Our camp site is home to lots of exotic birds, which we fed, and the famous cockobora. See snaps for those.
That evening we had fish and chips on the beach, like many a time in Western super mare but White sand replaced the mud, the sea replaced the mud and palm trees replaced the pier! We get back to our camp to see what we think were tree kangaroos at the camp but they turned out to be possoms. Other evening activities included watching a stick insect lose it's fight with an ant and flew away with 3 legs. All that excitement, on a sober night!!
The next day we went on a long hike! It started pretty badly though as we first had to navigate our way through an incoming tide across the creek. eeek! After what the bus driver said in the last place we were more nervous. We watched 4 other people make the trip and then we did and survived!! A Jellyfish sting out here can kill you in 20 minutes!
We walked to a walk called the Fort circuit. It had remains of building and lookouts from WW2. All built but never used. However we went on this walk to spot Koalas and we did! We spotted 2 lazing about in the trees. On our way back a lady had put a sign outside her house to say 'lookup into the trees'. There was a mother and baby Koala on 1 tree which was pretty cool. We spotted one later on as well, see if you can spot one in the picture of the 2 trees! We also saw huge bats and wallabies in the evening.
We did the most exercise we have done for weeks, walking about 8 miles in total.
