Byron Bay

Byron bay was completely different to Coolangatta and surfers as it was all low rise and seemed better for us backpackers! We were recommended a hostel so booked with them before hand.

We decided to go for a walk as we were tired and sore from surfing! It was a cool walk that took us to the most easterly point in Australia as well as a cool lighthouse. 3 hours later and even more tired, we got back!

There was a bar over the road which sold meals for $5, sometimes with a free drink as well!! They were really good so ended up eating there 4 nights in a row!

We went surfing the next day on some good waves although slightly dangerous as there were rocks scattered around!

The next day Oscar and Bear (from our Fraser island trip) walked into the communal area which was a surprise but it meant a few good nights ahead of us!! We went surfing again, it was a bit rough so was difficult. As we were walking back from the beach we noticed a crack in our beautiful board! Nooooooo!!!! A guy in our room told us not to use it until it got fixed as it would get worse. Not an ideal scenario!

On our last day we went surfing with Oscar and Bear using the free boards from our hostel. It was pretty fun but there were a lot of jellyfish in the sea, so a lot of the time was spent watching the water!

We booked an extra night as the brothers were staying also and headed to the bar to the wet tshirt competition. We're not sure what happened, but there weren't many tshirts being worn!! It was a $300 dollar prize though.

We sat up chatting and teaching Bear and Oscar words like Roly-Poly which they found hilarious.

Byron has been a nice stop. It's also the first hostel in Australia that allows BYO beer. It's law in Queensland that you can't drink in hostels if they have a (really expensive) bar, which all of them did!
