Gold Coast

From sunshine coast to gold coast, that can only mean 1 thing....more great weather! Sorry to everyone reading this in the snow at home!! Actually no we're not - ha!

Surfers paradise

Now if someone said 'paradise' after a word you love you'd be really excited! Well we were too but after spending 3 nights we found out that 'surfer paradise' wasn't that good for surfing. The conditions were for complete beginners! Don't you know we're pros now!!

We went down to the beach on our first day and spent a total of 5 minutes each in the water before realising it was not good and dangerous! The day before we left someone drowned, the 3rd person that summer!

So the first day we tried surfing, the 2nd day we spent shopping! We bought our rash vests (as they're equivalant of factor 50 sunscreen, as well as cool!) and some other pieces. The hostel we stayed at was pretty crap too, basically for those who didn't go out on their organised nights the hostel was closed, and this was at 9pm!

As we weren't surfing we decided to go to Wet and Wild! We had a good day, the slides were good but it was busy, but then it is school holidays out here!

We heard on the lowdown (Emma asked a lifeguard) that the place to surf was Coolangatta, 45 minutes down the road. So we cancelled our extra nights in Surfers and booked ourselves into the only hostel in Coolangatta.

Coolangatta

Unlike Surfers Paradise, Coolangatta lived up to it's name, as it's definately is a cool place!! (cheese- thanks Emma!) The waves were much better in Coolangatta, it's hard work getting out to them but worth it when you do. Enma caught the best wave of the day all the way back to the beach and had fish swimming in the wave with her, how cool!! We were knackered in the evening and only managed a Macdonalds ice-cream Sunday and use of their free Wifi for the evening, cheers Maccas!!

Day 2 was heading the same way, good surf etc but then i got stung by a jellyfish!! Now I know what's going through your minds: aren't jellyfish deadly? Yes they are. Luckily for me it was the bluebottle variety so not so deadly. I was paddling out when my hand started stinging, I look down and there's this thing wrapped around my arm!! I picked it off,  washed my arm and then there's more wrapped around my finger!! It stung a fair bit. Emma did offer to wee on my arm (it eases pain) but she was a bit dehydrated so I politely declined!! I was allowed a beer in the evening to help numb the (now gone) pain, yeeee haaaa!

There was no surf on the 3rd day so we sat on the beach and had a walk around!

Another surf stop next up, and a new state....Byron Bay, New South Wales.
